Psych Desktop (Open source webOS)

Psych Desktop is an open source webOS that is using dojo 1.0. The apps actually use dijit's default set of widgets. There's also a CSS based theme engine. There's no release yet, but you can get it from a subversion repository. The project is around a year and a half old. We are short on contributors, so if this is something you'd be interested in working on, let us know.

looks like a really

looks like a really interesting project, if only I had more experience and time... looks like Drupal for the community site and issue tracker etc, I'll sift thru the issues and keep an eye on the forums for something that I might actually be capable of doing ;)

what I'm really curious about... are there any backers/sponsors for the project? getting the support of some open source foundation (like the Dojo foundation, for example) might lend some credibility and spur greater adoption/buzz. I've had an account with Goowy.com (goowy webtop) for a couple of years but never really used it (heavy flash clunkiness, etc) and Goowy's forums are a ghost town - seems like a project dead in the water. And as you noted in the next topic, the last commit to YouOS was like a year ago. In some respects, it is as if these 'web operating systems' have trouble gaining altitude or are just ahead of their time, but one suspects that one of them has to take off.

final note: how about skinning things OS X style, as per cameron adams?...

Thanks for the feedback.

I really think the issue with web desktops/webOSes are that they can be much more powerful then they are currently. One of the things I'm really trying to solve is the fact that there is no really good way of accessing documents remotely without installing additional software. The other issue is to make a platform that is customizable enough to solve a specific problem, such as server administration, or as an alternative to VNC.

We aren't associated with any open-source foundation yet. Maybe this is something we should look into doing, although I don't know if it's the kind of thing where you go to them, or they come to us. At this point I really just want to be able to release something :D

And as for your OSX theme request, I can't see why not. I'll work on that theme in once I find the time to do it, unless you or someone else does it first.
